America, God Shed His Grace on Thee

SQUANTO. The name is strange, but the story is powerful and miraculous. The Pilgrims landed at Plymouth with no survival skills. They came to the New World for religious freedom–to worship God in Spirit and in Truth. Four hundred years ago, on November 11, 1620, our forefathers and foremothers braved the unknown to forge a nation on biblical principles and Christ-centered ideals. But they weren’t equipped for the harsh conditions. They weren’t hunters, or fishers, or farmers; they weren’t builders or tradesmen. They were scholars, preachers, and shopkeepers and in the harsh New England winter, they were dying. They landed and set up camp on a small piece of elevated land. Forty-five out of 102 died that first winter of scurvy, starvation, and cold. Hopeless. Dejected. Discouraged. They stood on the edge of a precipice, much like we are today. Our very survival is at stake. YET in the midst of these horrific circumstances, GOD provided a miracle! Into the midst of suffering, fear and death, walked Squanto–the only Native American in a 600-mile radius who could speak fluent English! He’d been kidnapped by the French, sold to the English, who took him to England and while in captivity, he learned the English language and became a strong Christian. The Church funded his freedom and helped him get passage back to America. Once home, he sadly discovered his people had died and his village burned to the ground. He joined a neighboring tribe, but visited his village site each year to pay tribute. In 1620, he found the Pilgrims on that very site. Later he said, “I knew God sent me to them.” Squanto walked into the Pilgrim’s camp, and asked in perfect King’s English, “How can I help you?” Squanto lived with the Pilgrims the rest of his life – teaching them to hunt, fish, build, survive and thrive. A miracle.

OUR NATION WAS BORN OUT OF MIRACLES. Our nation has survived because the Hand of God worked miracle after miracle on her behalf. Through the miracle of Squanto, to a rag-tag army taking on the British Empire and WINNING; Gen. Washington’s army at the Battle of Valley Forge, to the miraculous creation of the US Constitution, and Abraham Lincoln’s desperate prayer at Gettysburg that turned the tide of the Civil War; we must not forget all the miraculous events that changed the Battle of Midway during World War II when America took on the most powerful army in the world. Never forget the miraculous preservation of Pres. Reagan’s life from an assassin’s bullet, allowing him to fight for freedom around the world!

Never, at any of these critical junctures, was a positive outcome certain or even likely. Yet, America prevailed, by God’s grace!

Chris Stewart writes in Seven Miracles That Saved America (2009), “No man is perfect and neither is any nation. Yet, despite our weakness, we are still, as Abraham Lincoln said, the best nation ever given to man. Despite our faults, this nation is still the last, best hope of earth.”
In short, God still cares what happens in the United States of America. Our nation has been a bright light in a world that longs for hope. God shed His grace on this nation. Please join me in fasting and praying as we watch once again God’s Deliverance for America. Stand and see the Salvation of our God! Peace.

Thank you for this encouraging reminder. We do need a miracle. It seems that, for every inch of ground the Church has abandoned that evil has taken two. God help the Church, and thereby this nation.

Thank you, dear friend, for this much-needed encouragement and reminder of the many times God has brought America through such impossible, impassable situations to the other side and victory. I am believing with all my heart He is not finished with this great country and His great heart will be moved with compassion in response to the many cries of His people today and tomorrow, in Jesus’ name. Sending love, gratitude, and hugs your way today!
